All moved in!

I realize that my last post was in March when I got accepted into the Disney College Program, but I am now here to update you guys on everything going on in Orlando!

Let's back up to Monday, August 12. Monday was check-in day. All of my roommates and I got in line at about 8:00 am and didn't get finished with the process until noon. It was a very long and tiring day. We turned in our paperwork, took pictures for our ID's, got our housing assignment, and received the exciting news of where we will be working! We are living in Patterson Court, which is where we wanted to live! It is the newer apartments so that's definitely a plus in my book!!! The apartment is great, they provide all the kitchen utensils, furniture, pretty much everything. However, they don't allow you to hang a thing on the walls. So, all we have is our own personal cork board. Splendid.
For the semester, I will be working in Epcot! My location is a store called World Traveler that is located in between France and the UK in World Showcase! I am really excited about it because it is not one of the busier stores in Epcot and so hopefully I will not be stressed. I personally love Epcot, and I absolutely love the countries as well. I feel like this is the perfect location for me :)
After the check-in process, we started to move into our apartment and make all the necessary Target and Wal-Mart runs!

The following day, Tuesday, I had Casting. My roommate, Morgan, and I took the bus at 9 am to head over. This is where we did even more paperwork, and learned a little bit more about what we will be doing for the next week or so. I received my first training schedule... so I start training on Saturday in Epcot. That day is called "Discovery Day," in which we will be touring Epcot and learning more about the park and our job. I'm excited about that! During Casting, they also perform background checks and fingerprinting. My poor pinky finger had to be scanned a good 30 times before it finally worked. My life. After that, we just signed more paperwork and finally got to go home.

Yesterday, Wednesday, I had my housing meeting at 12 pm. It took place in The Commons, which is the apartments known for the International CP's. It lasted about 2 hours, and we were taught rules and regulations of living on Disney housing and everything in between. It was probably the most boring thing I have done so far.

Today, I have the day off. I have not a thing to do so I am hopefully going to rest and get some errands done. I need to take advantage of this time off because after today, I hit the ground running. Tonight we also have a "welcome party" and a few friends from Toy Story will be joining the party as well! ;)

Tomorrow is my official first day of work. I have my Traditions class at 8 am (I have to catch the bus at 6:45) and I am excited about it! All I know is that we learn more in depth about Walt Disney World, take a underground tour of Magic Kingdom, and we receive our name tags. The course is about 4-5 hours long, so it will be interesting. After finishing Traditions, we also get our main gate pass, which lets us cast members into the park!!!!! I have yet to be able to go into the parks since my arrival, and I am so excited to finally be able to go whenever I want. Ahhhhh

I am already having a great time, and I am so thankful for this opportunity to be able to make magic and work in the happiest place on Earth! Life is certainly different here. People don't have the "southern charm" that I am used to in Mississippi, but I have to remind myself daily that I will be back home before I know it and to take advantage of all of this.

It is also so weird to be surrounded by people from different countries. I sat by a guy on the bus yesterday from Germany, and it was neat to talk to him.

And people stare at me in wonder about my accent. And my double name.

That's all for now! Catch up again soon!

Fun facts from my housing meeting haha....
 - The August 12th arrival date was the largest arrival group in the Disney College Program history
 - In 1981, the program had 248 members, and now it has 14,000 annually!

DCP - Fall 2013

I got accepted into the Disney College Program!!!!

I am SO excited about this. Since I was a freshman in college I have thought about this program but was too afraid to actually do it. I am supposed to graduate this December, but now I will be graduating next May. I just cannot believe I am going to be living in Orlando and getting to visit my favorite place everyday! I am so obsessed with Disney World, and I'm perfectly ok with that.

So, I got accepted for merchandise. This was actually my first pick. My second was character attendant and then my third was costuming. I will not know which park or where I will be working until I get there. I will be there from August 12th to January 3rd. I am still debating on whether or not I want to audition to be a character performer...since my height range is too tall for a lot. It is going to be an adjustment for sure, but I am excited about this opportunity and doing something totally out of my comfort zone.

Now let's talk about all of the rewards I will be receiving just by being a cast member:

- Discounts at Walt Disney World resorts
- Disney Cruise Line discounts
- Free theme park admission (I'm pumped about this, clearly!)
- A limited number of free tickets for family and friends
- Sneak previews of new attractions, parks, and resorts
and much, much, much more!

I really hope to use this blog as a journal once I am fully there in August. I want to keep my family and friends updated on my experience and, of course, I want to remember my experience here also!

I am LOVING summertimeee!

My 21st birthday was last Tuesday! I seriously thought this day would never come. Being the baby of my grade that I am, I was happy it was finally here. That night a few of my close friends went to The Bin and sat there for hours just hanging out and listening to music. I love that place in the summer. It is absolute perfection. Since by best friend Leah's birthday was June 1st, we decided to wait until the weekend to celebrate together and with everyone else. A group of us went to eat Mexican before and then we headed out on the town. It was all around a fun night and I am so thankful that I got to celebrate with my favorite people! Thank you to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday and a big big thanks to my family. My mom and stepdad got me a new "21" Pandora charm for my bracelet and a beautiful antique diamond ring. Hank also gave me a Michael Kors watch that I am obsessed with. I love my little brothers note he wrote in my card he gave me. He is a nut. It was a happy day!

The following day after my birthday, my baby cousin Jake turned ONE! I can't believe it has been a whole whopping year since his birth. I love him to pieces and am so thankful God put him into our family. He is the cutest thing I have ever seen, and he just learned how to walk last week! I love to show him off and he is about 50% of my Instagrams! :) Happy Birthday Jakey! I love you!

And to wrap it all up, my trip to the beach with Hank's family was fun as always. I had to come later so they flew me down there so I didn't have to drive. How SWEET of them! We laid out everyday and Hank and I squeezed in some time to go to Moe's and grab a smoothie from Smoothie King (his favorite). We also went out to eat at The Melting Pot while down there. I think the closest one to us up north is in Memphis so it was a treat to go there. I love that place! I was so sad to leave and have to come back and start summer school.

God is good!

I am thrilled to share that I got the internship that I applied for this summer!

About a month ago, an advertising internship opportunity came my way. It was with the Student Media Group which is based in Newark, Delaware. I applied for it, participated in a 3 round interview process, and got a call yesterday that I had been chosen for the position. Even though the offices are in Delaware, they give the opportunity to students in college towns all aross the US. What I will be doing all summer long is going around to Starkville businesses and try and get them to place ads in the Plan-It Planner that you can buy in places like Barnes and Noble, The Lodge, etc. I will also be helping them create the ideal ad that best suites them. This is not how I was planning to spend my summer, however, this opportunity came my way and I am thrilled to have this experience! I will be traveling to Clemson University to start training in about a week, and then I come back to Starkville and start working. As a PR major, it is very important to partake in internships and have a little experience before hitting the "real world" with full force. So yep, I'm excited about this internship and about living in Starkville this summer!

In other news, today is my best friend Kathryn Cox's BIRTHDAY! She is the big 2-1 and I can't wait to go to Starkville Thursday (tomorrow) and celebrate with her and all of my other friends. It's been a long time coming for us with late summer birthdays, and it is LESS than a month until mine :) Even though I feel like such a baby and I feel like I am so behind everyone, the majority of my friends' birthdays are right along mine so that is sort of a relief!

Happy happy birthday sweet Kathryn! I love you!

And have a good rest of the week to you allllllllllll!

FINALS ARE OVER! Maybe now that I am out for the summer, I will hopefully blog more. I love to blog, but it was so hard to find time to do it when you are living with 7 other girls and 190284792 down the hall.

Speaking of, along with being done with school, I have officially moved out of the Delta G house. It was a bittersweet thing. I LOVED living in the house Fall semester. Loved it. However, Spring semester wasn't quite the same. By the time Spring Break came along... it was crazy. I just wanted my own space and quietness. So that is what I mean by bittersweet. I will always be thankful that I did have that experience because in the end, it was a great one. I have a lot of memories from my sweet roomies! I can't wait to have an apartment next year with Alyson and Leah. Anddd our friends Katherine, Kathryn, and Kelsey will be right next door (almost).

As for my summer plans, I will probably be taking summer school in June. If I don't get my summer internship, that is. Let's all cross our fingers on this one :/

Let's have a catch up, shall we?

So since my last post, things have gotten a little crazy around here. Since the semester was coming to an end, I tried to go to every last social function we had. We had our last formal of the semester, and Mathletes vs. Athletes swap. Of course, I chose to be an Athlete because it was the easiest (is that bad?) so I borrowed Hank's soccer jersey. Semi-formal was an absolute BLAST! It was, hands down, the best formal yet. I wish they were all as much fun as this past one. It was also the seniors last one. I am so sad that they all will be leaving :( it just doesn't seem right! And to go along with that statement..... We are SENIORS. Crazy crazy crazy... I don't know if I'm ready for all that.

So I will leave ya'll with some pictures. Have a great week :)

Roommates next year!

I promise I haven't forgotten!
The past few weeks have been......busy to say the least. It seems like this time of year is so hectic. I'm so glad it is almost the end of the semester because I want (need) a break so badly from school. Juuust to throw this out there... this has been the worst semester I have had yet. Let's just leave it at that. :)
So let's see...
Two weekends ago was Sigma Chi Derby Days! It is probably my favorite springtime event at MSU. I practiced my booty off for the lip-sync and had a blast with everyone. We came in 3rd place overall, and we were all happy with it! DG won 1st place in basketball, which comes to no surprise because our girls are ballerssssss (no pun intended). Hank and his good friend from high school, Sykes, coached our team. Let's just say they took it serious and even had a play book. JA basketball all the way. Saturday my mom and Meg came to watch the dancing part and it was great to get to see them. Up next: All Sig Day... Whoo-hoo!!!

Now on to Easter. One of my favorite weekends. I love coming home to my family, buying Easter dresses, the decorations, and seeing my grandparents and other family. Not to mention the weather this weekend was faaaabulous!

I love my Luke!

But most importantly, Jesus is the reason we celebrate Easter.
He has risen! Just as he said.
Update: My mom and Earl got a new bike. They love it, and I am still trying to figure out how I feel about it. They rode it around the neighborhood last night and people were stopping them for pictures and hooting and hollering. They love to try new things.........

That's it for now.

Have a great week!
